In the whirlwind of having a baby and making sure you have all the material items you need such as a stroller, car seat, nappies, newborn clothes and all those other essential items sometimes remembering to schedule your newborn session gets forgotten of the list.  When you ask most newborn photographers when is the best time to take newborn photos, most will say that 5-10 days is the magic window and many will say this is the only time within which they will take newborn photos. I agree this is the optimum time to get your newborn photos taken but I’ve had babies I know how overwhelming those early days can be! I offer clients posed newborn sessions up to 3 weeks old. After three weeks babies are stretching a lot more and it isn’t as easy or comfortable for babies to be put in some of the positions you see with newborns. After three weeks babies are also becoming a lot more alert and a lot of the newborn poses require baby to be in a deep sleep.

If clients come to me after the three week window I will still happily take newborn photos but just make sure clients area aware that the photos will be less posed. One of the wonderful benefits of taking photos of your newborn slightly later is your likely to get lots of photos with your babies eyes open. This collection of photos is baby Miya and her mum and dad who came to me when Miya was 7 weeks old. I often hear that parents are turned away until their baby is 6 months if they have missed the tiny window of newborn photos. I think you will agree looking at these that they are memories worth catching!
